Hardware Add on
Options
The following are optional POS hardware
that you may use with Video Rental Plus Video Store
Software. All hardware should be obtained directly
from the manufacturer or an authorized supplier.
Cash
Drawer
The
standard way to use a cash drawer
in a POS system is to connect the
drawer to your receipt printer.
Then, the drawer is triggered by
the printer each time a receipt
is printed. We recommend using
the following printer driven cash
drawers, since these are lower cost
and easier to install. (Our
software does support serial cash
drawers as well)

Star, or NCR Printer

|
Receipt
Printers

printing receipts on small
compact paper.
supports
most Epson and Star receipt
printers. Be sure to order the
Parallel Interface models, as
these are much easier to setup
and maintain. (Our software does
support serial printers as
well)

Barcode
Scanners
Video Rental Plus allows
(but do not require) the use of a
barcode scanner for reading
barcodes in all relevant data
input sections of the program.
When connected to your computer,
the scanner decodes the barcode
and passes the information to the
computer in the same way that
keystrokes are received from your
computer's keyboard (identically
to how it would arrive from a
really fast typist)

Most
keyboard wedge scanners
(Metrologic MS951, ZBA

|
Digital Camera
(for customer photo
capture)
By
having one installed, you can at
any time take video file photos
of your customers (by just
pressing a key on your keyboard).
Such photos can be quickly
recalled later when you are
processing a particular client,
for positive customer
identification

FAQ's on
Hardware
What is the suggested
network speed and network
protocol?
If the computer is to be connected on a
network, for maximum throughput we
recommend that your use 10/100BaseTX
network hub or switch. Your computer
Network Interface Card should also be
either 10/100BaseTX or 100BaseTX. To
connect your computers to the network hub,
you should use Category 5 or better
network cables. If you're having only two
computers, you could also use a Cross Over
Network Cable to save on the cost of a
network hub. The network protocol that we
recommend for your network is the TCP/IP
protocol, it is more reliable and gives
you better bandwidth control of your
network traffic.
Do I need a dedicated
database server to run your
software?
Video Rental Plus was designed to be
affordable and flexible. Therefore, our
software does not need a dedicated
database server or the expensive Windows
NT or Windows 2000 Server operating
system. You can have your database locate
on one of your POS computers to save
costs.
